Mae Sot is a vibrant commercial town bordering Myanmar’s city of Myawaddy. It is a major cultural and commercial hubs linking people between the two countries where one can find an endless varieties of gem stones and handicrafts. Nature lovers won’t be disappointed by stunning scenery of mountain ranges along the borders and the famous Thi Lo Su waterfalls in Umphang district. Phra Jao Tan Jai

Phra Jaow Tan Jai is a sacred Buddha image people in Mae Sot, and other nearby provinces highly revered. In accordance with the traditional rituals of the Lanna-Thai beliefs, the Buddha image was built and finished in one day - before the setting of the sun - while monks were praying the entire time of the creation. At night, a ritual of ‘Buek-Ned’ (opening of the eyes) – a ritual meant to bring the sacred spirit to the image – is performed throughout. The material used to build the Buddha image had to be clean and pure. People would normally pay the image a visit to pray and recall the goodness of the Lord Buddha.

Jaow Pall Phra Wall’s Shrine

The Ghost Star Dance Festival Parade is a local tradition that showcases the rich culture of the people of Amphur Dansai at Mae Sot Province, which has been passed down from their ancestors. The Festival is part of the Boonluang Ceremony, which is considered the largest merit-making ceremony in the locality.

Photikhun Temple or Hua Tei Temple

The Aranwasee (forest dweller monks) temple is situated in Mae Pa sub-district, on the Tak-Mae Sot Highway No. 105. Interestingly enough, its chapel, a three-storey building that resembles a giant ship, was designed and built by Somprasong Chaonarai, who devoted his 18 years building it. The first floor of the chapel is plain and simple, and without any decorations. The second floor is well decorated, while the third one is meant for religious rituals, and is neatly decorated.
